Will work with Counter-Strike 1.6 (Steam) and Counter-Strike Source

During the lengthy time since my last update, I've officially become part of the Natural-Selection development team  taking the role of sound engineer (I was working on contract before).  This has meant I've not worked on the MaxSound pak, but there wasn't much else left in its current guise anyway.  If enough people request it, I will update it for CS:Source to add the distance sounds for the gun shots.  A lot of things have happened, including getting to know Valve a little better, talking to the main guys there and hanging out with the DOD guys whilst recoding voices which was very cool.  I've invested in some of the same sound recording hardware as Valve use so I can increase my range and quality of sounds.  Natural-Selection 3.0 has been released with a huge amount of bug fixes and cool features, and of course, including some new sounds by me.

I'm going to try and keep the site updated, but its going to be sporadic, depending on my current projects.  I'm looking to increase my time working on sounds, and less on my current professional job (IT Consultant) if possible, but we'll have to see how that pans out.

Now that Steam is out along with CS 1.6, I've been checking the sound and model paks against it.  The MaxSound pak works fine, the only thing you need to change in the directory you install it to, your installation path should look something like this: c:\steam\steamapps\youremailaddress\counter-strike\cstrike

Make sure that you choose this path when installing the MaxSound pak and it should work fine.

I've also updated the pak to correct the weapon names, all the weapons should show on the menu as their correct names, e.g. the Desert Eagle is not called the Night Hawk.

The models pak works ok to, but the P_ models have to be deleted otherwise the server will enforce file consistency and kick you.  I will update the file as soon as.  One more thing, unfortunately the weapons not replaced by the pack appear in the other hand when playing, I don't think there is a lot that can be done about this :(

Just a quickie, I managed to get the new mac-10 sound louder and more powerful sounding without changing the wave form too much, so it still sounds very "sprayee" if that's a real word? anyway, just re-download the MaxSound pak from the pak1 section again, it will update automatically.

I know I haven't been around for a long time, I've been extremely busy with real-life™ and have also been working on the new sounds for Half-Life Natural Selection.  Natural Selection v2.0 has been released with a stack load of new sounds created by me, as well as loads of new cool updates to the whole mod, check out the details at the official site

Anyway, I'm back to playing with various games again, and someone has even threatened to make me a new site as my last one quite literally disappeared on me.  Most of the site you see at the moment was just thrown up for file distribution and doesn't have all the content in it like the high definition weapon models pack, I'll hopefully be addressing this soon, thought I'm hoping that the new site will be ready before then.

For the time being, I'm releasing version 1.5/3 of the MaxSound Pak, it has updates to the weapon echo's and two new sounds for the Mac-10 and the SG-552 assault rifle.

On a slightly different note, the direction that CS:CZ took, as well as its monumental delays has meant I'll most likely not be buying it, I will however be buying Half-Life 2 as that appears to be unbelievably good :)

Ok, its been nearly a year since this site was updated, I did have another site made for me, but it appears to have "gone".  I might update the site with more details or change it to be less specific, I no longer limit my sounds to one game/mod.  I have updated the Pak1 section just so the main sound pak is available but not the weapon model choices just yet.  We'll see how it goes.

2nd April 2K2 (20:20 GMT)

Just a quickie, I noticed some people complaining about their configs were going a little "off".  The only thing that could cause this was a little file I included which told you the pack was installed when CS loaded.  It wasn't necessary so I just removed it, anyone having problems with the sound pak should mail me.

1st April 2K2 (19:10 GMT)

OK, lets just say its been a while since I last played CS.  I stopped playing it when the cheating with OGC was at its height of "popularity" and moved to DOD.  Anyway, I just got ISDN and started playing some more games again, CS seams to have a lot less cheaters about at the moment.  With the imminent release of CS: Condition Zero and the CS 1.5 update including new anti cheat measures, its looking more and more enticing to play CS online again.  With that said, I looked into what happening with PCZONE and my last sound pak version, it appears, after creating a "free" installer program, it stopped working after 3 days, so it never happened...

Um, yeah, way to go >:{

All in all, nothing got published as it didn't work and I wasn't paying any attention because I was playing DOD.

Anyway, its a week later and I've found (after much searching) a great free installer called Paquet Builder perfect for releasing files and mods etc.  I have packaged up all the new sounds that were in the original PCZ release and added about 6 new ones, a total of about 20 odd sounds, I have also repackaged some of the older files and created two new thunder replacements for DE_Aztec (one with rain and another without)

All these files are now available on the Pak1 page with the current version of the MaxSound Pak up to 1.3/3.

Some of the new sounds include;

Improved M3 Shotgun (pump sound)

Updated Mac-10 (more rapid fire)

New Silenced M4A1 (more realistic)

Updated Generic Reload (the sound other people make when reloading) includes clip hitting floor

These and the other updates that were included in the PCZ edition, about 14-15, unfortunately I can't remember them as it was that long ago :(  but there are enough changes and new sounds  to warrant a new release.

Expect further things to come, I'll most likely be buying Condition Zero, it looks pretty good, so expect something of an update for that.

11th November 2K1 (19:10 GMT)

Its been a while since I last updated, even though I said I would upload some new content to the site.  If all goes to plan, the next issue of PC Zone (UK Mag) you will see the next version of the MaxSound Pak on the cover CD.  I can't stop updating it for the time being but I don't foresee anything new again until CS Condition Zero is released.  There are about 14-15 new sounds in the 1.3/2 PCZ edition of the pak some are edits, most are new.  I will release the New pak on the web site when the magazine hits the shelves, it should be before the end of the month.

As for my other developments, as soon as Day of Defeat beta 2.0 is release I will again start work on my DOD sound pak and actually release it this time.  After that I would expect to release something for CS:CZ early next year.
